The Department of International Cooperation has prepared a comprehensive Staff Week programme for both teaching and non-teaching staff from the partner universities.
On Monday the event began with a welcome reception in the Senate Hall. The event was chaired by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Student Affairs Mr Bartosz Miller, BEng, PhD, DSc, Associate Prof., who welcomed the participants. Ms Edyta Ptaszek, MA, Head of the Department of International Cooperation, the department’s staff and the faculty coordinators for the Erasmus programme participated in the meeting as well. Participants briefly presented their universities and research interests. Monika Stanisz, MA, introduced the Rzeszów University of Technology in a presentation after which guests toured the library and the campus. The first day of the event concluded in the lobby of Building V, where the participants presented their home universities and countries of origin at stands during the Educational Fair.
Tuesday began with a visit to the Artificial Intelligence and Humanoid Robot Applications Laboratory, established last year. Mr Tomasz Żabiński, PhD, Eng. the head of the laboratory, presented the work highlighting the importance of research on humanoid robots, how robots can support industry, and where they can be used. Participants had the unique opportunity to control the robot and become familiar with Alf's operation and skills. The remainder of the day was devoted to lectures by teaching staff, as well as individual training sessions in the central administration.
The following day the participants visited the Museum of Folk Architecture in Sanok, the largest open-air museum in Poland in terms of number of buildings. Guests toured historic religious architecture and learned about life in an ancient Polish village. At the end of the day, participants visited the Academic Gliding Center in Bezmiechowa Górna, where the head of the unit, Prof. Tomasz Rogalski, PhD, DSc, Eng., guided the guests. The staff asked various questions about the center's tasks and the flights themselves. Favorable, windy weather conditions on that day allowed for a demonstration flight, which completed the visit to the center and aroused considerable interest among the participants.
Thursday was devoted to projects implemented under Action 2 of the Erasmus programme at the Rzeszów University of Technology. The staff from the International Projects Office participated in the meeting, and Mrs Barbara Pomykała, MA, gave a presentation on ongoing projects. During the meeting, participants discussed opportunities to participate in projects with universities outside the European Union, presented projects in which their home universities are participating, and exchanged practical ideas on how to build a consortium and what to pay attention to when preparing an application. The rest of the day, as well as Friday, was devoted to individual consultations with staff from individual departments and faculties.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the faculty coordinators: Mr Andrzej Dzierwa, PhD., DSc, Eng, Ms Joanna Krasoń, PhD, Eng. and Mr Paweł Dymora,PhD, Eng. for organizing the visits and lectures at the faculties; Mr Tomasz Żabiński, Dr. Eng. for the opportunity of meeting Alf; and Prof. Tomasz Rogalski, PhD, DSc. Eng. for explaining the secrets of glider flights. We would also like to thank the department coordinators of the central administration Mr Maciej Szalacha, MA, Mrs Marzena Wojciechowska, MA, and Mrs Monika Kamler, MA, for meeting with the administrative staff and conducting the training, as well as Mr Wiktor Ostasz, MA, for presenting the library collections and guiding the guests, and Mrs Barbara Pomykała, MA, for presenting projects implemented under Erasmus Action 2.
The 3rd International Staff Week was a wonderful opportunity for networking and building long-lasting relationships, which potentially will provide an opportunity to develop further scientific projects between both participants and the University of Technology staff in the future.
