BUP Teachers' Day 2025
This event is open to all teachers in higher education within the BUP. It is a possibility to network, gain new knowledge and inspiration, and share experiences and best practices with colleagues around the Baltic Sea Region. This year's theme is 'Ethical, Educational, and Sustainable Approaches to AI'.
In this online workshop, the participants will explore artificial intelligence through the lens of sustainability. How does AI relate to ongoing debates about infrastructure, the environment, and ethics? What opportunities and challenges does AI present in the fields of education, teaching, and learning?
The BUP Teachers' Day is open for all teachers and other staff at BUP participating universities. The event will take place online on Monday 28 April 2025 13.00-15.30 CEST (Please, note! Central European Summer Time).
The program will combine theoretical insights with discussions and exercises.
The coaches are Martin Gustafsson, Professor in Philosophy, and Tomás Lehecka, University lecturer in Swedish and General linguistics, both from Åbo Akademi University.

BBT Baltic Hackathon 2025
The hackathon is open to students (primarily Master's and PhD students, however Bachelor students are also encouraged to apply) enrolled in European universities. Participants can come from various disciplines such as marine or natural sciences, as well as environmental economics, design, technology, programming, business or biology, and more. All applicants who are interested in working in the blue biotech sector or want to find out if they have potential are invited to apply.
This event will take place from 6 to 8 June 2025.
Challenges selected for the BBT Baltic Hackathon are:
- What's the secret to building an energy-efficient recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) in the Baltic area? (Disciplines: Aquaculture, Technology)
- How can we make recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) production in the Baltic area sexy? (Disciplines: Business and Marketing, Aquaculture)
- Can we find a sustainable replacement for minerals (Micah), used in cosmetics, in the Baltic? (Disciplines: Aquaculture, Pharmaceutical, Technology)
- How can Baltic offshore wind farms be inspired to invest in regenerative ocean farming? (Disciplines: Aquaculture, Technology, Business and marketing)
- How can we raise healthier fish with fewer chemicals in intensive recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) in the Baltic area? (Disciplines: Pharmaceutical, Aquaculture)

PhD positions and Research Fellows
Tallinn University has launched a new chair within the Sustainable Futures project (SustainERA). As a part of this work, they introduce four new PhD and three Postdoc positions to start in September 2025 and January 2026.
Four positions as PhD candidates will join the ERA Chair in the SustainERA project. The last day to apply is 16 April 2025.

Kaunas University of Technology shares a call for applications to the
International PhD Summer School
This event provides the opportunity for intellectually curious doctoral students to explore new knowledge, to expand cultural awareness and to exchange experience. The summer school takes place 2-9 June in Palanga, Lithuania.
This summer school focuses on the development of key competences required for achieving best results in the successful defense of the doctoral dissertation and identifying further research directions.
The PhD Summer School:
- equips participants with essential skills that are necessary in all fields of science;
- provides participants valuable networking opportunity with participants from other countries;
- creates and shares friendly social environment;
awards participants with certificate of attendance.
